The country woke up to another scam on the eve of the election day. People were taken aback by the revelation of yet another scam on major
news sites like Faking News and Unreal Times.
The fake scam started as an innocuous tweet about a news article on Unreal Times.
Narendra Modi, apparently elated at the "news", took it too seriously
and re-tweeted about it. Within a couple of hours the news spread like a
wildfire on Twitter. Billions of tweeple re-tweeted the article without even
reading. Digvijay Singh, speaking on the issue said, "How can Narendra Modi
have billions of followers on Twitter, there are only a billion people in
India!?”
By today morning, the matter became so serious that the government had
to issue a press statement. Speaking at the press conference cabinet minister
Kapil Sibal said, "There is zero loss. There is no scam. It is a fake
scam!" Ironically, it was Sibal's vehement denial that converted the issue
into a full blown scandal. Mainstream media has latched onto Sibal's comments
as the ultimate vindication of the legitimacy of the scam, affectionately
termed "Fake Scam" by out of
work journalists who are being rehired overnight to cover the story.
The CAG has assured the nation that it will investigate the
issue and a put a big number on it. "You cannot put a price on a Fake Scam."
argued Shashi Tharoor. Tharoor was actually locked in a midnight twitter war
defending his party. Here are excerpts from Twitter:
“This is a fake scam.”-
@shashi_tharoor
“Aha! So there is a #fakescam?
You accept!”- @narendra_modi
“No I do not.” - @shashi_tharoor
“Aha! So this scam is real? You
accept!”- @narendra_modi
“No I do not.” - @shashi_tharoor
“Aren't you a hypocrite?” - @narendra_modi
“Yes I am!” - @shashi_tharoor
“:O” - @narendra_modi
“Once you accept being a hypocrite, you are no longer a hypocrite.
Because a hypocrite never accepts being a hypocrite, because he is a hypocrite!
But I accept, so I am not. I am not, because I am” - @shashi_tharoor
“By a similar token, #fakescam is because #fakescam is not!” -
@narendra_modi
“Don’t mess with me old man, I once got a central minister fired due to
his tweet!” - @shashi_tharoor
The twitter war captures the confusion of the nation, with
denials by Congress Party spokespeople only strengthening the belief that the #fakescam is real. "It is a scam
for the intellectuals.” explained ex-CJI Katju, "99.9% of people will not
believe it, because they cannot understand it, because it's difficult for
common people to comprehend something that does not exist."
